MATH COUNTS: Congratulations to our Math Counts team for winning 3rd place at the Chapter competition on February 11.
Edward Yang won individual 4th place!
Edward Yang, James Wood, Michael Yang and James Zhang will represent Ligon to compete at the State Math Counts competition on March 16.

BOLT FOR THE BLUE: It’s just around the corner! Saturday, March 24 at 9:00 a.m. Please continue to send in your registration forms for our Annual 5K run. You can mail them directly to the school or drop them off in the PTA box in the front office. Extra forms are also available on the website or in the office. Students are encouraged to create teams and challenge their classmates. A special thank you to 3Phoenix and Carolina Braces for their generous sponsorship!

COOKIE DOUGH SALES: Our LAB cookie dough fundraiser continues this week. Fifty percent of all sales come back to our community, so show your support for the arts at Ligon by purchasing cookie dough.

Monday, February 13 through Thursday, February 16 Spring tryouts for 7th and 8th graders for Boys’ and Girls’ Track, Girls’ Softball and Boys’ Soccer teams. Please meet at the gym at 2:30 pm. and bring appropriate equipment to wear. Tryouts will run until 4:30 p.m. All required forms must be turned in to the Coaches prior to the start of tryouts. Any student without these forms will not be allowed to tryout. Forms can be found on Ligon’s website.

Tuesday, February 14 Sketch-up Club will meet in the Computer Lab at 2:30 pm

Anime Club will meet in Room 1237 at 2:30 pm Wednesday, February 15

Math Counts will meet in Room 2305 at 2:30 pm

Quad A Meeting in Student Services at 2:30 pm Friday, February 17

Early Release Day – dismissal at 11:45 a.m.

TRANSPORTATION SURVEY: Wake County parents may now participate in an online survey to gather public comment on proposed changes to bus routes and bell schedules for 2012-13. Parents may review the potential changes for their school, answer survey questions and leave their own comments and suggestions by clicking on the large “Transportation Survey” button on the WCPSS website’s front page. You can also find this button on Ligon’s website. The survey will be live through Feb. 16. Feedback will be shared with the Wake County Board of Education in advance of its Feb. 21 discussion of the issue. In accordance with board policy, the school board must adopt bell schedules for next year by the end of March. The proposed changes would increase efficiency and accommodate growth, while reducing the bus fleet by 112 buses and increasing the system’s efficiency rating, which affects state funding levels. The combined savings would be up to $10 million.

COOKIE DOUGH SALES: The LAB cookie dough fundraiser begins this week. Students will receive sales kits on Wednesday, February 15. Fifty percent of all sales come back to our community, so be sure to enjoy this tasty opportunity to support the arts at Ligon.

Stage Improvements at Ligon

Many thanks to the Warner Fund for their generous support of Ligon and the performing arts.
Ligon PTA was the recipient of a generous grant to make improvements and repairs to the Ligon stage.
A new cyclorama was just installed.
Watch for a new light bar, refinished stage floor and prop storage coming soon!

Monday, February 6 Please come out to support our Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball teams for their last game of the season at Carnage beginning at 3:45 pm Intramural basketball league will play from 2:30-4:30 pm in the gym. Tuesday, February 7 Sketch-up Club will meet in the Computer Lab at 2:30 pm Art Club will meet in Room 3112 at 2:30 pm Anime Club will meet in Room 1237 at 2:30 pm Wednesday, February 8 PTA will meet in the media center at 7:30 a.m. After a short business meeting, there will be a program for parents on the transition to high school. While this program is specifically geared to 8th grade families, all parents are welcome to attend. Math Counts will meet in Room 2305 at 2:30 pm Thursday, February 9 Magnet Open House Tour begins at 9:00 a.m. The tour will last between 1-2 hours Friday, February 10 School Dance begins at 2:20 p.m. All students must be picked up on Haywood Street by 5:30 pm Saturday, February 11 Techie Saturday 8:00 am to 5:30 pm Spring Tryouts for 7th and 8th graders will begin the week of February 13. This includes Boys’/Girls’ Track, Girls’ Softball and Boys’ Soccer. An Athletic Participation Form, A Student Concussion Form and a Parent Concussion Form must be on file PRIOR to tryouts. Congratulations to our Future City Team for winning 3rd Place in the Regional Competition over the January 21st weekend. They also won Best Transportation System, too! The kids were mentioned in the Sunday edition of The News and Observer. Box Tops for Valentine’s Day!

Time for our 2nd “Box Tops for Education” raffle! Every student who brings in at least 25 Box Tops by Tuesday, January 31st, will be entered into a drawing to win one of three Valentine’s prizes

Movie Tickets (Regal Theaters)
$10 Goodberry’s Gift Card

Students should bring in Box Tops in a Ziploc bag identified with his/her name (either written on the bag or included on a piece of paper inside). Limit of 10 bags/entries per student. Box Tops can be dropped off in one of two collection boxes at school – either outside the main office or in the auditorium lobby.

The intramural basketball league will play again from 2:30-4:30 pm. If you are still interested in joining a team, please talk to Coach Nolan in the gym. The teams that played in the first games had a great time, so come out and join the fun. We’ll see everyone Thursday at 2:30 in the gym ready to play!

Our Business Alliance Meeting will be held at 11:15 am in the Conference Room. This date has been changed from the meeting previously scheduled for January 20.

Scholastic Book Fair
